Healthy food for our neighbors in need

Food insecurity can undermine the wellbeing of individuals and families. The Food Pantry provides food to anyone in York Township in need of nutritious food. Guests choose the items they need from a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables; dairy, meat, fish and eggs; bakery and deli items; and nutritious non-perishables. A grocery store setting welcomes guests to select what they need and prefer at no charge.

We get the majority of our food from the Northern Illinois Food Bank, where we can stretch each $1 donated to acquire $8 worth of food. We receive fresh milk and eggs weekly through a partnership the food bank has with Prairie Farms dairy. We also pick up food donations of fresh produce, dairy, deli and bakery items from eight local grocery retailers.

"[The food pantry] has been one of the most significant changes I’ve ever encountered. I was eating ramen soup before I came here – getting free food wherever I could, and now I can actually eat healthy. It helps me to live a healthy lifestyle."

How You Can Contribute

The Outreach House Is a member of Northern Illinois Food Bank, and receives food deliveries twice monthly as well as training and grant opportunities. Using your donations allows us to purchase food from the Food Bank at a fraction of the price - for every dollar you donate we can turn into $8 worth of food.

We welcome your financial donations

We gladly accept donations of non-perishable items delivered during our normal service hours (see below)

Making this food available to our guests takes a lot of volunteers.

Organizing a food drive is another way to help.

"I am diabetic so the fresh fruits and vegetables are very welcome. I come to the pantry once a week and this really helps as I only get $40 month from SNAP. Thank you!" (Guest)

"My doctor told me I needed to eat more vegetables, and I am grateful for the selection the Outreach House has." (Guest)
